I am a trapped phoenix
within a golden cage, within my flesh and bones-
in the very depths of my heart
wanting to be set ablaze
and resurrected without the cage.
The encaged phoenix
cries many tears
through a ravishing song
that runs through my veins
and shakes my bones.
A song they run from, as the sadness of the world is already too much to bear,
as the golden cage remains locked.
My spirit is a trapped phoenix
With beautiful gold and crimson wings,
longing to experience the unknown
and explore the unseen.
But the phoenix is trapped,
within the confines of culture,
within the hopes of pleasing others,
and within the fears of myself.
I am a trapped phoenix
trapped with a thousand regrets
waiting till the day I can rebirth with the rising sun
and embrace the sky with new-found strength
from all my old ashes.
